Officers were aware of the dangers of water intoxication, and they even discussed the condition in connection with the woman. Concerns were discussed among the detention officers, but she was given no help.
In fact, in response to her insatiable thirst, the jail staff moved her to a cell with no sink they covered the window so that they would not have to look at her. They even put towels in front of the door so that her vomit would not leak into the hallways. It was in that cell she was found and declared deceased the next day.
The woman died because of water intoxication and ketoacidosis, physiological mechanisms that caused a shutdown of her body.
Ronald Tracy Bush Dies After Being in Comal County Jail
On June 8, 2023, Ronald Tracy Bush was booked into Comal County Jail. He died from numerous medical issues on July 11, 2023, and one of those medical conditions was diabetic ketoacidosis. Records from the jail show that after he was in the jail for 6 days, he went into a hospital in serious condition and was transferred to intensive care on the day he arrived.
