Ismael Caracheo Dies After Being Beaten in Bexar County Jail

Ismael Caracheo was booked into Bexar County Jail on May 2, 2025. Tragically, he suffered a medical emergency in the jail in August and succumbed to his injuries, allegedly caused by other inmates, on October 3. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office filed a custodial death report (CDR) about Mr. Caracheo on November 10, 2025.

The CDR reveals the following, which represents the scant amount of information to be found that may give insight into the cause of Mr. Caracheo’s death:

  • The manner of death Mr. Caracheo suffered is pending the results of an autopsy.
  • Inmate-on-inmate violence caused Mr. Caracheo’s death.
  • The type of weapon that caused his death is unknown.
  • Mr. Caracheo was housed in a multiple-occupancy cell.
  • Mr. Caracheo’s death occurred in a medical facility.

A Summary of How Ismael Caracheo’s Death Occurred

On August 12, 2025, at approximately 9:01 p.m., a Code 1 Blue (life-threatening emergency) was initiated by a unit deputy after he observed Inmate Caracheo, Israel #427829, in Unit/Cell BI03 lying on the floor with blood covering his face and appearing unresponsive.

The Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) personnel, along with the floor sergeant, responded immediately to the unit. Medical staff arrived shortly thereafter and assumed care of Inmate Caracheo. Inmate Caracheo was transported to UHER.
Inmate Caracheo’s charge was dismissed, and he was released on September 26, 2025. On October 03, 2025, Ismael Caracheo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in the medical facility.

Bexar County Jail, also known as the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, is at 200 N Comal St, San Antonio, Texas, 78207. The jail has an inmate capacity of 5,100.

Francisco Bazan Was Beaten to Death in His Bexar County Jail Cell

In Texas news dated May 19, 2025, out of San Antonio, 46-year-old Francisco Bazan was murdered by fellow Bexar County Jail inmates in April 2025. Mr. Bazan was allegedly beaten to death inside his cell. The family alleges that deputies stood by as their loved one was killed by other inmates.
