The following are brief details about some of the deaths that occurred within a 12-month period at the jail outside Texas that this series is about:

  • On September 29, 2019, the aforementioned 36-year-old who begged for help for hours reportedly experienced a “medical emergency” in his cell and died, according to jail officials. An investigation is currently underway regarding his death.
  • On September 10, 2019, a 63-year-old inmate died. He had been hospitalized after suffering a medical condition and was then moved to hospice care before he died. There is still an active investigation into his death.
  • On March 10, 2019, a 33-year-old inmate was found dead in the shower with a sheet wrapped around his neck. This information is from a report prepared by that county’s Medical Examiner, who ruled suicide his cause of death.
  • On February 25, 2019, a 31-year-old man died, and he had been arrested three days prior. Records indicate that he suffered an unexplained medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death indicated on the Medical Examiner’s report indicated that an accidental overdose was the cause of death. Additional information on this custodial death will be included in the next segment of this series.
