Jail Abuse Attorney in Texas – Two Jailers are Sentenced for Acts of Retaliation Against Inmates – Part 1
In a state outside of Texas, two jailers in a county jail have been sentenced in connection with acts of retaliation against inmates. A 25-year-old deputy jailer was convicted over the summer after witnesses testified against him. According to testimony, the deputy jailer directed one inmate to assault the other, who was strapped in a restraint chair. The victim was hospitalized for treatment of his injuries, records show.
The sentencing document from the U.S. Attorney’s Office indicates that the deputy jailer gave the inmate a note instructing him to attack the other inmate. The reason for this action was retaliation after the victim in this incident was intoxicated and, during the booking process, broke the finger of another deputy jailer.
The deputy jailer was also found to have falsified a report saying that the victim had spit on two deputy jailers. According to evidence, however, the victim had not been combative and did not spit on the jailers.
Although the deputy jailer could have been sentenced to 20 years in prison, a shorter sentence was agreed to by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The former jailer will now serve at least 85% of four years and three months. So, he will spend a minimum of three years and three months in prison. After his release, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for two years.
