Jail Neglect Lawyer – An Investigative Report on a Jail Outside Texas Results in Possible Corrective Actions – Part 6 of 6

DM Inside a jail cell

The narrative about the inmate who died at the county jail outside Texas on February 25, 2019, continues as follows:

  • The previously mentioned report further says that a video shows that the inmate had taken a baggy from one of his pockets and was ingesting its contents while he was being transported in a police car to the county jail. Witnesses say that he appeared normal for several hours while he was in a holding cell. Suddenly, he appeared to suffer from a series of seizures.
  • On December 29, 2018, an inmate who suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia died at the jail due to dehydration. The man had been incarcerated nine days before his death. On the day he was booked into jail, he reportedly demonstrated bizarre behavior and was placed in solitary confinement. A report prepared by a Medical Examiner indicates that the inmate was provided with food and beverages at the jail, but he did not drink a sufficient amount of liquids. He was found in his cell in an unresponsive state and was declared dead shortly thereafter.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office responsible for jail operations said that people within the inmate population have a range of different mental health conditions as well as medical conditions. He said that a third-party healthcare provider handles ongoing medical treatment as well as the initial health screening when booked into the jail.
