Jail Neglect Lawyer Texas – After Being Booked into a Jail, a Woman’s Health Declines Within Weeks to the Point of Blindness and an Inability to Walk Before her Transfer to and Death at a Hospital

A for-profit jail facility is accused of the wrongful death of a woman who allegedly suffered abuse, neglect, and deliberate indifference while living in inhumane conditions. The staff at the jail is accused of being responsible for the woman’s blindness, emaciation, and inability to walk prior to her death.

With regular medications, the woman had reportedly been managing HIV and mental health-related issues for an undisclosed period of time. Photos show that the woman was posing for a camera and smiling shortly before being incarcerated for pretrial detention. She was at the jail for about 11 weeks before she died. The jail staff is accused of failing to give the woman her full medication therapy. Her health allegedly began to deteriorate after only 9 days at the facility.

The woman was moved to a medical observation cell after a few weeks at the jail. Her condition reportedly continued to worsen, she was eventually moved to a hospital, though her family was not notified. Members of her family say they had to track down the sheriff to learn the whereabouts of their loved one.

In this ongoing series, learn the descriptions of video footage showing the woman’s last 48 hours in the jail before being “released from custody” and transferred to a hospital. Another claim is that it was already too late for her before going to the hospital because of the severe decline of her health. The jail is accused of putting profit ahead of the care of the woman.
