County Jail
County Jail

Evie Hudson was booked into Lubbock County Jail on June 1, 2025. Sadly, on November 28, 2025, Ms. Hudson died at age 64 at a Lubbock hospital after experiencing a medical emergency in the jail cell where she was housed. The custodial death report (CDR) about Ms. Hudson was filed with the Office of the Attorney General on December 1, 2025, by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

The CDR lists Ms. Hudson’s death as natural and the medical cause of death as “cardiac arrest.” The jail provided treatment for the pre-existing medical condition that caused her death. The following is the information provided in the summary of how Ms. Hudson’s death occurred:

According to official reports, Evie Hudson, an inmate housed in Unit 2A at the Lubbock County Detention Center, experienced a medical emergency on November 27, 2025, after notifying officers that she was having trouble breathing. Detention staff immediately requested assistance, and both medical and corrections personnel responded. Ms. Hudson was moved to the facility’s Medical Center Clinic for further assessment.

Emergency Medical Services were called to the jail shortly afterward. Ms. Hudson was transported to University Medical Center, where she was initially pronounced deceased on November 28, 2025, at 5:18 p.m., the date and time of death reported in the CDR. Physicians kept her on a ventilator for several hours so her family could visit, and life support was removed at approximately 11:15 p.m. She showed no signs of life at 11:47 p.m.

As required under Texas law, the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit was notified and responded to begin an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms. Hudson’s death.

Families who lose a loved one in custody often face unanswered questions about the adequacy of medical care and the timeliness of the facility’s response. When medical distress is reported but the outcome is fatal, it may be appropriate to evaluate whether medical negligence, delayed treatment, or policy violations occurred.

The Lubbock County Jail, also known as the Lubbock County Detention Center, is at 3502 N. Holly Avenue, Lubbock, Texas 79403. The Lubbock County jail system has a bed capacity of approximately 1,500.
