Two July 31, 2022, County Jail Deaths Outside Texas

  • A 54-year-old inmate in an Ohio county jail died on Sunday, July 31, 2022. He had been in the jail for only two days when, at about 4:33 AM, corrections officers discovered that he was unresponsive. The jailers had been conducting routine inmate checks at the time. Lifesaving actions commenced immediately, and medics, upon their arrival, took over the effort to revive the inmate. The man was transported by ambulance to a nearby medical center, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is currently unknown, and an investigation into the custodial death is underway as autopsy results are awaited.
  • An inmate in a Georgia county jail also died on July 31, 2022. The 37-year-old died in his cell, according to the County Sheriff. The deceased had been booked into the jail on May 2, 2022. The sheriff said that the inmate did not have a medical history during his time of incarceration. His body was taken to a crime lab for an autopsy to be performed. However, there were no evident signs of physical trauma or suicide.
