Current News about Inmate Deaths in Local Jails Continued

  • A 39-year-old man incarcerated in a Pennsylvania county jail was discovered unresponsive in his cell on July 13, 2022. Life-saving efforts immediately began, but he died the same day. The custodial death is currently under investigation. The tragic death was on the same day that the county sheriff responded to an op-ed suggesting that the jail has an alarmingly high death rate, and he pointed out that even in the jail’s worst year for custodial deaths, the rate fell below the national average.
  • A 30-year-old woman incarcerated in a Colorado county jail was discovered unresponsive in her single cell at approximately 8:00 AM on July 21, 2022. Sheriff’s deputies and mediately began lifesaving efforts, which were continued by the local fire department and medical response teams. Their efforts were unsuccessful, and she died that day. The woman was booked into the jail on June 20, 2022. Her death is under investigation by several entities, including an independent investigative team. The lead agency in the investigation is the local police department.
