Current News about Inmate Deaths in Local Jails Continued
- On July 20, 2022, a 23-year-old man died in the custody of a Texas county jail. The man was housed in a multiple-occupancy cell, and fellow inmates notified detention officers that he was in an unresponsive state. According to the sheriff’s office, the young man began receiving medical attention within seconds. A call was made to emergency medical services, and the man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. At the hospital, approximately 45 minutes after being discovered unresponsive by jailers, the 23-year-old was pronounced dead. The death will be investigated and reviewed by multiple local and state agencies.
- In the suicide-watch room of a local Texas jail, a 25-year-old man hung himself and died because of suicide on Saturday, June 4, 2022. The young man had been booked into the jail the previous evening at about 7:00 PM. He was housed in a suicide-watch room situated across from the jail booking desk. He was monitored in face-to-face observations in intervals that did not exceed every 15 minutes.
