Medical Issues & Suicide Cause Many Recent Local Jail Deaths-Pt.4
Current News about Inmate Deaths in Local Jails Continued
To continue the story of the 25-year-old man who committed suicide in a Texas jail on June 4, 2022, the sheriff spoke about events leading up to the tragedy in the few short hours in which the man was incarcerated before his death. The sheriff stated that the inmate was combative with the officers who took him to the jail. He says that jailers spoke to the young man on several occasions, and each time he denied having suicidal ideations. Between observations of the inmate, he ripped up a blanket and used it to hang himself. Jailers discovered him hanging at about 7:50 PM, and he was still alive at that time. The young inmate was transported to a local hospital, where he died just prior to midnight.
An autopsy will be performed on the body. The Texas Rangers are investigating the death, and their findings will be reported to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, according to the sheriff.
