The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office filed a custodial death report (CDR) on Mr. Talavera’s death on June 28, 2022. The cause of death is unknown, according to the CDR. El Paso Inmate Deaths are On the Rise

A recent online publication reveals that, between the two Texas El Paso County jail facilities, 14 inmates died between 2010 and 2015. There were even more deaths between 2016 and 2020, with a total of 21 deaths in the El Paso jails. Of the latter time period, 9 of the deaths were suicides and 4 inmates died due to mixed drug toxicity. Records also show that fentanyl was found in the systems of several of the inmates.

None of the above figures take into account the many deaths that have occurred since 2020. It appears that most recently, two more El Paso inmates died within 6 days, the latest custodial death being Adam Talavera on June 4, 2022.

In this ongoing series, learn about the deaths of several of the inmates who had been housed in the El Paso County Jail in downtown El Paso, Texas.
