Texas County Inmate Dies of Sepsis and Other Conditions
In early January 2023, a 44-year-old inmate was involved in an incident with police. He pointed a “look-alike weapon,” a BB gun, at a uniformed officer. The inmate sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The inmate, who was in the custody of the county jail, was transported on the same day to a hospital. On January 29, 2023, the inmate was pronounced deceased in the hospital. The medical cause of death, per the custodial death report (CDR), was multiple organ failure / sepsis / multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was homicide, which includes justifiable homicide. The type of weapon used was a handgun. The CDR alleges that law enforcement/correctional personnel caused the death.
A 66-Year-Old Inmate Dies of Sepsis
An inmate was admitted to the same Texas county jail alluded to above on January 1, 2020. He died on January 29, 2021. The summary of how his death occurred states that on January 14, 2021, the inmate was transported from one hospital to another for further evaluation. At about 11:40 AM on the day of his death, the inmate was extubated, receiving oxygen, given morphine, and placed on hospice care. Per an RN, he was declared deceased at 10:22 PM.
