Sepsis is the Presumed Cause of Death of a 29-Year-Old Texas County Jail Inmate-6
Reatha Sue Robinson Dies of Sepsis and Other Conditions Continued
In the summary of how her death occurred, the custodial death report (CDR) says that Reatha Sue Robinson was transported by a jail vehicle to Texoma Medical Center (TMC) on September 13, 2022, per the request of the onsite medical staff at the jail. Since the time of her arrest, it says, the jail had been monitoring her for ongoing cirrhosis of the liver.
The medical staff became concerned about her health. She was physically unable to come to the food port and take her medications. After a check was made of her vital signs, the request to move her to Texoma Medical Center for further testing was made on that day, September 13. She was admitted to TMC for complications from cirrhosis. While she was hospitalized, she was diagnosed with several other life-threatening issues, including sepsis and pneumonia.
On September 24, 2022, doctors conducted an EEG to check for brain activity. No brain activity was located. Based on information from the hospital staff, the family made the decision to remove her from life support. At 6:39 PM on September 24, 2022, Ms. Robinson was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
One additional note in the CDR indicates that in the time leading up to the death, restraint devices were used on the inmate. The type of restraint was handcuffs.
