Taylor County Jail has been cited for violating Rule §273.3- Health Instructions. All medical instructions of designated physicians shall be followed.

  • TCJS inspector could not verify that medication was consistently administered to inmates as ordered by the physician.

Taylor County Jail in Abilene, Texas, is Cited for Noncompliance in a March 14, 2019, Special Jail Inspection Report

After a special jail inspection, a special inspection report citing Taylor County Jail for noncompliance with a minimum jail standard was issued on March 14, 2019. That jail standard was Rule §275.1-Regular Observation by Jailers. This special jail inspection report was conducted and signed by TCJS inspector Wendy Wisneski.

The rule states that every facility shall have the appropriate number of jailers at the facility 24 hours each day. Observation shall be performed at least every 30 minutes in areas where inmates known to be assaultive, potentially suicidal, mentally ill, or who have demonstrated bizarre behavior are confined.

  • Information received and documentation reviewed by the Commission revealed the 30-minute face-to-face observations of inmates were completed. However, video evidence proved that on two occasions, 30-minute face-to-face observations were not conducted as they were notated on the round sheets and as required by medical personnel.
