Texas Attorney – Fort Worth Police Department – Investigation Regarding an August 22, 2017 Shooting
An officer-involved police shooting is being investigated in Fort Worth, Texas. The shooting occurred on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, on East Loop 820. Police officers went to the scene due to the report of a man blocking lanes of the highway. They discovered that a Caucasian male in his 40s was holding something, and it looked like a knife, according to police spokesperson Daniel Segura. The police officers say that they attempted to talk with the man, but he began charging toward them with what they thought was a dangerous weapon. Segura says that the police officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but they were forced to draw their firearms. The man was allegedly shot by police, and he was transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.
The incident is under investigation. At last report, police were unaware whether the man had been driving and got out of his vehicle or whether he walked there. The name of the alleged suspect has not been released.
Police officers often come under fire when they use excessive force. Various groups across the country allege that a lot of racial profiling occurs among law enforcement agencies, targeting African Americans. Whatever the race of an individual who is shot and injured or killed by police, the public has a right to expect that law enforcement officers will perform their duties without undue force.
