Texas Jail Medical Neglect Lawyer – An Inmate Dies in a Restraint Chair
At a county jail outside Texas, a 42-year-old father of two died while he was strapped in a restraint chair. The facts are still being investigated, but apparently, the inmate was experiencing hallucinations as he was strapped into the restraint chair. The man’s family has been struggling with the reality of their loved one’s death for over a year.
On the day of the man’s death, the family had been trying to transport the man to a medical facility for help. He jumped out of the car as a law enforcement official was driving by. The man was arrested for resisting arrest and several other charges the family says were absurd. The family members claim that they begged the officers to take the man to the hospital.
About three hours later, the man, just booked as a county jail inmate, was dead.
Various facts about the case have been released to the public. The 42-year-old was obviously hallucinating while in the patrol car. He was thrashing and kicking, banging his head, and screaming that snakes were after him. An ambulance was called to the scene, but they refused to take custody of the man, saying that he was in too violent a state for them to do anything.
Ultimately, jail officers admitted the man into the county jail, assigning him to solitary confinement and suicide watch. A padded helmet was placed on his head.
