The Family of a Man Shot by Police in Kentucky is Suing the City of Fulton and Others
In January 2017, 46-year-old Chris McClure, died after he was allegedly shot twice by an officer in Fulton, Kentucky. One of the shots was allegedly an execution-style shot. It was announced in late February 2018 that McClure’s family is suing the City of Fulton, the Kentucky State Police, and the officer who allegedly pulled the trigger. The family claims that there is no justification for the shot fired at point-blank range. The officer allegedly involved was wearing a body camera, and the camera captured footage of the alleged deadly shooting. The video has been released for public viewing.
The video footage shows an officer arriving at the scene and firing his weapon at McClure almost instantly after stepping out of his police cruiser. The officer then instructed McClure to “get down,” but he lifted up instead of lying back. The same officer then allegedly shot McClure a second time at such a close range.
The entire incident began when McClure, who struggled with mental issues, began smashing the windows of parked cars with a metal pole that had a knife attached. He was said to be upset because he wasn’t able to see his children. McClure took out his frustrations on the SUV of the Fulton Chief of Police. The chief called for backup, and the officer who showed up at the scene is the one who allegedly fired the fatal shots.
