The Kaufman County Sheriff TX Reports a 4/13/22 Inmate Death-Pt2
Chauncey Elmer Toombs entered Kaufman County Jail on April 12, 2022. The custodial death report (CDR) indicates that he made suicidal statements, exhibited mental health problems, and had medical issues. While he was still housed in a holding cell in the booking area, he fashioned a ligature using gauze and hung himself from a handicap assistance bar. He was pronounced dead at 8:39 PM on April 13, 2022.
Christy Michelle Slayton Dies in Kaufman County Jail
Christy Michelle Slayton was booked into Kaufman County Jail on September 10, 2019. She died at the age of 30 on September 14, 2019. The CDR states that the medical cause of death was a toxic level of multiple drugs in the system. During the booking process, however, she was not noted as appearing intoxicated by alcohol or drugs, nor does it indicate that she had medical problems. In the summary of how Ms. Slayton’s death occurred, it states that she was discovered in an unresponsive state in the holding cell where she had been placed. CPR was initiated, and an AED was applied. An ambulance transported her to a local hospital, and then she was life-flighted to Dallas Presbyterian Hospital. Ms. Slayton was placed on life support, which was discontinued at her family’s request on September 12, and she died two days later. Ms. Slayton was an organ donor.
