Alleged Constitutional Rights Violation

At the same county jail, an inmate who had only 10 days to serve alleges that he was placed in a segregated area of the jail with three other detainees who were known to have hostilities against him. Those inmates assaulted him, and the entire event was captured on videotape. The defective locking mechanisms on two cells gave the men access to the victim of the beating. Later on, the inmates that were known to be the attackers in the case were all convicted in connection with the assault.

As a result of the alleged serious physical beating, the inmate experienced extreme pain, suffered permanent injury, and faces large medical bills.

In connection with the assault, the jail is accused of deliberate indifference with regards to the inmate’s constitutional rights because he was placed in an environment that was known not to be appropriate, secure, or safe. Also, the inmate was allegedly placed in grave peril and imminent danger. The monitoring that is required in jails was also allegedly neglected, and the purpose of such monitoring is to help ensure the well-being and safety of inmates.
