Update on Death of Stormey Murphey at Denton County Jail

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office filed a custodial death report with the Attorney General of Texas, regarding the death of Stormey Marie Murphey, well over thirty days after Ms. Murphey’s August 15, 2017 death.  Texas law requires the director of the relevant law enforcement agency and/or facility in which a person is incarcerated and dies in Texas to, no later than thirty days after death, file such a custodial death report with the Texas State Attorney General.  It appears that the Denton County Sheriff’s Office was late in filing the report.  All information provided in this post was obtained from that report.

Allegedly, on August 15, 2017, Ms. Murphey was housed in the main jail infirmary of the Denton County Jail.  Allegedly, an officer checked her cell at approximately 11:10 a.m. that morning and found that she was deceased.  The alleged cause of death was suicide.
