A Gregg County Jail Inmate Hangs Herself with a TV Cable Continued
The summary of how the death of Ashley Elizabeth Maxwell occurred, per the custodial death report (CDR), continues here. The jailer at Gregg County Jail in Longview, Texas, immediately called for assistance when he found Ms. Maxwell on May 26, 2022. With help from other staff members, they removed the cable from Ms. Maxwell’s neck. She was moved to the floor and staff began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Emergency medical services (EMS) were summoned. When they arrived, they took over lifesaving measures. EMS transported Ms. Maxwell by ambulance to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center. Ms. Maxwell was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:08 PM, about 28 minutes after she was discovered hanging in her cell. She was 43 years old at the time of her death. She died on her third day of incarceration.
The Texas Rangers investigated the death with help from the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division. An autopsy was ordered, and the Medical Examiner found that the manner of death was suicide and hanging was the medical cause of death.
