Wrongful Death in Jail Lawyer/Attorney in Texas: Cameron County Jail

Prison cells in big jail and security guard

Cameron County Jail is located at 954 E. Harrison Street in Brownsville, Texas 78520. The phone number at Cameron County Jail is (956) 544-0865. The inmate capacity is 1,746. The Cameron County Sheriff assumes responsibility for the jail. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) sets forth minimum standards for the way jails in Texas are run.

Visitation at Cameron County Jail

The visitation process begins when inmates fill out their list of approved visitors and hands that list to jail staff. If there is no list for visitors in the system, shift supervisors may approve a visit.

All visitors must sign in using a photo ID, and their name will be checked against the inmate’s list, if any.

Any individual who registers to visit with an inmate is demonstrating that they will follow the regulations and rules that the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department has set forth.

If a would-be visitor refuses to cooperate with requirements, they will not be allowed to visit. A visitor’s refusal to comply with any of the guidelines set forth or with staff orders will result in not being able to visit for at least 30 days and possibly longer.

A list of items not allowed inside the lobby area of the jail visitation section follows:

  • Wallets
  • Purses
  • Bags
  • Electronic devices
  • Cell phones
  • Writing instruments
  • Recording devices
  • Lighters
  • Liquids
  • Foods
  • Weapons

Each post on this website is provided as a source of helpful information to current and former inmates in Texas jails and their families, particularly when the inmate has been a victim of civil rights violations. There is no intention to infer that misconduct has occurred on the part of any person or organization.
