Supervision of High-Risk Inmates  

Harrison County Jail, like all Texas jails, provides supervision of inmates under rules designed to prevent custodial suicide. At-risk inmates include those in the following categories:

The frequent supervision of potentially suicidal and mentally disabled inmates has been deemed extremely important. August 31, 2020, was the deadline for Texas jails to install cameras or electronic sensors able to record the face-to-face inmate observations of high-risk inmates in cells and groups. Now, when TCJS conducts jail inspections, observation documentation is compared to video records.

Jailers are required to provide personal observations of at-risk inmates every 30 minutes. It is important that no further time passes because diligent supervision has been determined to reduce incidents of suicide.
