Wrongful Death, Neglect, and Abuse in Jail Lawyer/Attorney in Texas: Reeves County Jail

Reeves County Jail is in Pecos, Texas 79772 at 500 S Oak Street. The jail can be contacted at the phone number (432) 445-4901. The Reeves County Sheriff operates the Reeves County Jail, which has a bed capacity of 84. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) provides the minimum jail standards that guide jail operations. Enforcement of jail requirements is largely accomplished with annual jail inspections at each city and county facility accountable to TCJS. When jails are not compliant, at least one additional inspection is scheduled and the jail is placed under closer scrutiny until operations are up to code.

Restraints

At Reeves County Jail, TCJS-approved restraints can be used when inmates are exhibiting behavior of potential harm to themselves or others. Restraints must be used in a humane manner at all times. They are not to be used as a form of punishment. The following are more of the guidelines for using restraints in Texas jails:

  • Restraints should control an inmate’s movements only to the necessary degree for injurious behavior to be avoided.
  • Prisoners with physical infirmities must not be restrained in a way or in a position that would worsen their condition.
  • Documentation is required with regard to using restraints. The following is among the information to be recorded:
    • The events that led up to the need for restraints.
    • The time when an inmate was placed in restraints.
    • A detailed explanation for the action.
    • Observations of the behavior of the inmate, which should occur every 15 minutes.

This site’s posts are provided to help Texas inmates whose rights may have been violated. There is never an intention to suggest impropriety on the part of a person or institution.
