A Texas Amazon Employee Suffers an Amputation Injury

Materials storage is among the warehouse hazards that can threaten the safety of big box store employees. The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) tracks the serious work injuries and workplace fatalities that occur in U.S. workplaces. Among the serious work injuries reported by OSHA that occurred in Texas in December 2021 was one that involved materials storage hazards and happened at an Amazon location. Like Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowe’s, Amazon is not likely a workers’ comp participant in Texas. However, the same rules apply to all employers in that workers must have a safe place in which to work.

Dangers of materials storage include stacking of materials, improper storage, and overloading of storage equipment that results in materials falling onto workers. Serious injuries can occur, such as if a forklift strikes a storage rack and causes a chain reaction in which a storage system fails and threatens the safety of employees.
