Arbitration: Texas Amazon Employees are Injured in Forklift Accidents – Pt. 6

Like the last injury mentioned in this series, another Amazon employee in Coppell, Texas, at 2701 W. Bethel Road was hurt on the job in 2017. Amazon has likely not opted to subscribe to Texas workers’ comp.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) describes the Texas workplace accident as follows:

  • On October 16, 2017, an Amazon employee in Coppell had been working as a clamp truck operator and was pulling it into the battery charging area to park the industrial truck. Her left foot was outside of the confines of the industrial vehicle, and the clamp truck struck a railing. The employee’s big toe was fractured and the railing caused avulsing of the skin from the big and middle toes. She was hospitalized for the care of her injuries.

Forklift Accident Statistics

In addition to serious injuries that occur every year in connection with industrial trucks such as forklifts, many fatalities occur. Operating a forklift is fairly dangerous, and there are clear risks associated with working around forklifts as a pedestrian in the workplace. The following are among the most common causes of deadly forklift accidents:

  • The forklift tips over and crushes the operator.
  • A crush injury occurs between the forklift and another surface other than the ground.
  • A crush injury between two forklifts.
  • Being struck by or run over by a forklift.
  • Being struck by material that was being carried by a forklift and fell.
  • Falling off of a forklift platform.

This website offers information in posts to help workers in Texas who have been injured on the job as well as families of fatally injured workers. This is especially the case when the employer is not a Texas workers’ compensation participant. At no time is there an intention to infer wrongs on the part of persons or organizations.
