Employers Need to Provide Protection from Fall Hazards
Falls are one of the largest causes of injury and death at work. Therefore, companies must do their best to protect employees from fall hazards. OSHA assists with ensuring compliance with fall-related safety standards.
For example, OSHA recenlty cited Spray Polyurethane Foam with five alleged serious and one other-than-serious violations for not providing fall protection. The alleged violations resulted from an investigation into a worker death in El Paso, Texas. The employee allegedly fell almost 30 feet through a roof and died at the worksite.
The alleged serious violations included failing to determine if the roof had sufficient structural integrity to make roof repairs, failing to provide employees with fall protection and/or fall arrest systems, and failing to provide employee training for those potentially exposed to fall hazards.
