Texas Work-Related Fatalities Increase
Preliminary data indicate that there were 480 work-related fatalities in Texas in 2009. This represents an approximate four percent increase over the revised 2008 total of 463 fatalities. Nationally, there were 4,340 fatal work injuries in 2009. This represented a seventeen percent decrease from the revised total in 2008.
Transportation incidents continue to be the leading cause of deaths. Over half of the non-highway incidents occurred at an industrial premise or on a farm.
