Walmart Inc. in Corpus Christi is Cited After an OSHA Inspection

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) conducted an inspection at a Corpus Christi, Texas, Walmart, Inc. as a follow-up on a complaint. Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Amazon are not likely subscribers to the workers’ compensation program in Texas. Their responsibility to provide a safe work environment is the same as the companies that carry workers’ comp insurance.

In February 2020, OSHA Inspection No. 1463070.015 at Walmart, Inc. was conducted at 1821 South Padre Island Drive in Corpus Christi, TX 78415. It is Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #470. The NAICS Code is 445110, which is the Supermarkets and Other Grocery (except Convenience) Stores industry. The store allegedly violated six OSHA safety standards, and the total initial penalty was $31,807.   • This OSHA safety standard pertains to space about electric equipment. Employers are required to provide and maintain sufficient access and working space around all electric equipment in order to allow ready and safe operation and maintenance of such equipment. Initially, this was listed as a repeat violation with a proposed penalty of $31,807. The amount paid in the informal settlement was $750, and the offense was no longer categorized as a repeat offense.
