Suit Against Brazos County for Assault of Minor in Jail

A federal lawsuit has been filed against Brazos County after a minor detainee was brutally assaulted and sexually assaulted by other inmates in the county jail. The assaults occurred over several hours in an area where, according to a state report, no jailer conducted required security checks for more than five hours. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards found the jail’s monitoring system had been turned off and issued a notice of noncompliance for failure to meet minimum safety standards.
