An Elderly Inmate, After Being in Leg Shackles, Dies on his 5th Day at Tarrant County Jail
When he entered Tarrant County Jail on September 10, 2022, a 72-year-old male inmate did not exhibit any medical problems, according to the custodial death report (CDR). However, the CDR shows that he did receive medical treatment for the condition that caused his death after he was admitted to the jail’s jurisdiction. The only other details about what happened during his stay were that he was housed in a single cell and he was under restraint in leg shackles in the time leading up to the death or during the events that caused his death.
In the summary of how the elderly inmate died, it simply says that he was found unresponsive in his cell (75-D-19) at 10:39 AM on September 14, 2022. A medical code was called at that time, followed by a Dr. Heart (cardiac emergency) at 10:41 AM. He was transported in a Med-Star Ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital. At 11:21 AM, a physician declared him deceased.
The results of an autopsy to determine his cause of death are still pending.
