An Inmate Dies in Tarrant County Jail on November 16, 2022, 8 Days After Another Custodial Death Continued
The inmate died on his seventh day in Tarrant County Jail. He was under restraint in the time leading up to his death or the events causing his death. He was in leg shackles. In the summary of the events leading up to the inmate’s death, it says that on the day of his death, a medical code was called for him at 3:30 PM because he was complaining of chest pains and not looking well.
The medical team that responded to the medical code reported that he had unstable vitals, dilated pupils, and a history of hypertension but showed signs of being hypotensive. MedStar Ambulance Service was notified at 4:10 PM. The inmate left Tarrant County Jail Sheriff’s Office Jail in an ambulance at 5:03 PM. He arrived at the John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS) ER at 5:21 PM.
After he arrived at JPS, the inmate was diagnosed with a saddle pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung). At 9:14 PM on November 16, 2022, the inmate was pronounced deceased by two JPS physicians.
The custodial death report shows that the medical cause of death was a saddle pulmonary embolism, though the official cause of death is pending an autopsy.
