A Florida news source reports that on July 7, 2025, Jayman Winn was booked into Florida’s Duval County Jail on drug charges. Dying in Jail from an Accidental Drug Overdose

Pima County Jail in Tucson, Arizona, has reported more than four times the nationwide average of inmate deaths. In an in-depth analysis that included statistics on the 57 custodial deaths that took place there from 2017 to 2023, the number of drug-related deaths is striking. There were 16 deaths categorized as “accidental,” and fentanyl deaths accounted for 15 of them. A total of 20 of the deaths were attributed to drugs. This jail is in a county where fentanyl poisoning deaths spiked 42% from 2017 to 2022.

In a community where there is an obvious drug problem, it seems that the jail would be prepared for potential overdoses. Many jails now keep Narcan (naloxone) in supply for the purpose of potentially saving lives. Naloxone is a medication that reverses the effects of overdoses on fentanyl and other opioids. Narcan is a brand name for this remarkably effective medication. One condition of Narcan working so effectively is timing. A person can’t go too far into an overdose before Narcan is applied or the medication won’t work.
