A 41-Year-Old Detainee Dies in Dallas County Jail-Pt.2
Charles Korey Thomas was booked into Dallas County Jail on May 31, 2023. He was pronounced deceased in his single cell in the Dallas, Texas, jail on August 9, 2023. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office filed a custodial death report about Mr. Thomas with the Office of the Attorney General on August 25, 2023. The cause of his death is unknown. An autopsy was performed, and results are pending.
Dallas County Jail Detainee Willie Florence Love, Jr. Dies at Age 53
Willie Florence Love, Jr., per autopsy findings, died of “Ruptured splenic artery aneurysm with hemoperitoneum due to hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with obesity and diabetes mellitus.” The custodial death report (CDR), which was prepared by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, indicates that it is unknown whether Mr. Love received medical treatment for the condition that caused his death. Yet, one of the requirements that county jails have is to maintain medical records of all detainees.
Clay County Jail is Found Noncompliant with the Rule About Distribution of Medications
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) determines the minimum jail standards by which county jails in Texas must operate. A TCJS inspector conducted an inspection of Clay County Jail on August 10, 2023. As a result of the findings, the Henrietta, Texas, jail was cited for noncompliance with one minimum jail standard.
Rule §273.3-Health Instructions, in the chapter on Health Services, states that all medical instructions of designated physicians shall be followed.
