A Brazos County Jail Inmate Dies in About 9 Hours-Pt5

After his death in the custody of Brazos County Jail in Bryan, Texas, on May 13, 2022, a custodial death report (CDR) was filed on Terrance D’Shawn Hammond. Not much could be said because he had entered the jail just 9 hours before the pronouncement of his death at a hospital. The CDR did, however, list the four offenses Mr. Hammond had been charged with. The charges are related to minor drug possession, child support, and two instances of intentionally providing false or fictitious information.

A Jail Inmate in a Florida County Jail Dies on 6/17/22

Richard Cashiff Lucas was 31 years old and an inmate in a Florida county jail when he died on June 17, 2022. Deputies at the jail were notified at 7:35 PM on the day Mr. Lucas died that he was unconscious and not breathing. Several deputies immediately responded to the scene and helped with life-saving measures that had already begun. First responders also assisted with the effort to revive Mr. Lucas before he was declared dead. The Major Crimes Unit began its investigation the same day. No foul play or external injury to the deceased was noted.

A Female Inmate Dies in California on 6/20/22

The death of a female inmate is currently under investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in Riverside, California. A female inmate at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California, was discovered unresponsive at 5:12 AM on June 20, 2022. Despite life-saving efforts, the woman died a short time later and was declared dead at 5:52 AM. Her cause of death is unknown. No evidence of foul play has been found, and results of an autopsy are awaited.

The woman’s name has not yet been released. She is at least the fifth inmate in that county to die this year alone. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department operates five jails, and, since 2005, the average number of deaths annually in the county has been 7.
