A Galveston County Jail Inmate Dies After Being in Handcuffs-Pt.4

Deputies with the Galveston County Jail in Galveston, Texas, were attempting to put hand restraints on 40-year-old inmate Broderick Demoures Davis on September 21, 2022, when they placed him on the ground. Mr. Davis continued resisting the deputies after the restraints were applied, and then he became unresponsive. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died about 5 hours after being booked into the jail.

Terrance D’Shawn Hammond Dies 8 Hours After His Booking into the Brazos County Jail

Terrance D’Shawn Hammond was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center at 1835 Sandy Point Rd in Bryan, Texas, on May 13, 2022, at 1:14 AM. He was placed in a multiple-occupancy cell. Just before 8:00 AM, jail staff observed that Mr. Hammond appeared to be in medical distress.

Members of the medical jail staff were called to the scene to conduct a medical evaluation. When the medical staff arrived, they immediately began to perform CPR. Jailers called 9-1-1, and paramedics arrived at the Brazos County Jail at 8:06 AM. They evaluated Mr. Hammond’s condition and then took him by ambulance to nearby hospital CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital. After arrival at the hospital, 44-year-old Terrance D’Shawn Hammond was declared deceased at 8:53 AM, not 8 hours after being booked into the jail.
