An El Paso County Jail Inmate Dies in 70 Hours-Pt.3
After he went through intake at El Paso County Jail on March 13, 2023, Vincent Leyva was assigned to Cellblock 880 (4-Right), per the custodial death report (CDR). The summary of how the death occurred next says that on March 16, 2023, at about 11:26 AM, officers were conducting a security check and saw that Mr. Leyva was sitting in the cell in an unresponsive state. He did not respond to officers who were attempting to communicate with him. Medical staff were requested to provide aid.
Brandon Pacheco Calzada, age 23, Dies of Drug Toxicity in El Paso County Jail
Brandon Pacheco Calzada went through intake at El Paso County Jail on December 16, 2021. He was in the facility at 601 E. Overland St. in El Paso, TX 79901. He was assigned to a COVID quarantine cell on the fifth floor with three other inmates at 9:16 PM. Investigators discovered that he had made a comment that night that he had taken some pill and would someone wake him up for breakfast if he was still asleep. A few hours later, at 4:48 AM on December 17, patrol officers were called to the jail to recover some pills that were located and discovered in Mr. Calzada’s property after he was escorted to the quarantine cell. Officers arrived at the jail 9 minutes later and asked that Mr. Calzada be escorted for an interview on the 2nd floor.
