Dalton Gordon Dies in Kentucky’s Daviess County Jail

In Kentucky news, Dalton S. Gordon, 28, was booked into Daviess County Jail at 8:27 a.m. on August 19, 2025, on public intoxication charges involving controlled substances. According to the Daviess County Jailer, deputy jailers responded to a medical emergency involving Dalton Gordon less than 22 hours later. At 5 a.m., jail staff discovered Mr. Gordon unresponsive in the single-occupancy detox cell where he was housed.
The deputies began lifesaving measures while calling for on-site medical personnel and an ambulance from American Medical Response. The emergency crews arrived at 5:09 a.m., but their efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Dalton Gordon was pronounced deceased early Wednesday morning, August 20, 2025.
There were no apparent signs of foul play or suicide, officials said. An autopsy was scheduled for August 21 at the Daviess County Coroner’s Office. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the initial investigation. The ongoing investigation into Mr. Gordon’s death is being handled by the Daviess County Coroner’s Office and the Kentucky State Police. The release also says that the Daviess County Detention Center is conducting an administrative review.
The county coroner said that an August 21 medical exam did not determine Mr. Gordon’s immediate cause of death.
The Daviess County Jailer said that the internal investigation would probably take weeks. Officials will be reviewing documents and surveillance camera footage. They will also be interviewing jail staff.
The jailer also said that deputy jailers must check inmates inside the detox cells every 20 minutes. The check can include looking into the cells from the hallway. Those checks are documented. He explained that if an inmate identifies a health issue or if he can’t or won’t answer certain questions during the booking process, he or she will be evaluated by the medical staff.
Daviess County Jail, aka Daviess County Detention Center, has a bed capacity of about 245. The Daviess County Jail is located at 3337 KY-144, Owensboro, Kentucky 42303.
El Paso County Jail is Found Noncompliant in Connection with the Death of Jesus Torres
Jesus Torres, 57, was an inmate in El Paso County Jail in Texas when fellow inmates savagely attacked and killed him. Mr. Torres was discovered deceased on November 27, 2023. After an investigation surrounding the death, six inmates were charged with having a part in killing Mr. Torres.
A special jail inspection was conducted after Mr. Torres’ death. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) found that face-to-face observations of Mr. Torres had not been made according to minimum jail standards because jailers did not view Mr. Torres face-to-face.
The family, represented by Dallas civil rights attorney Dean Malone, asserted in November of 2024 that their loved one had not been observed by detention officers for 12 hours.
Mr. Malone said that the murder of Jesus Torres was fully visible to El Paso County Jail detention officers through a camera feed, but no one went to his aid. Even more bizarre was the fact that Jesus’ body lay lifeless in the cell for hours before being discovered. Mr. Malone also pointed out that the lax customs and practices at the jail have resulted in other deaths. For example, he said in November 2024, there had been approximately 20 El Paso jail suicide deaths since as far back as 2000.
El Paso County Jail is also known as the El Paso County Detention Facility. The jail has a 1,010-inmate capacity and is located at 601. E. Overland, El Paso, Texas 79901.
