El Paso, Texas County Jail Changes Medical Providers
El Paso County, Texas has, in the past, used University of Texas Medical Branch to provide healthcare to prisoners in its county jail. However, El Paso County Commissioners recently voted to approve a contract with University Medical Center to provide care to prisoners. Jails such as the El Paso County, Texas jail have constitutional obligations to provide reasonable medical care to prisoners. Such Texas jails also have obligations to mentally-ill inmates, if the jails are aware of such issues.
