Infant Dies of Fentanyl Intoxication

An understanding of the dangers of fentanyl is not complete without knowing that “bystanders” are often victims of deadly exposure. In current news, for example, the tragic 2020 death of a two-month-old baby has been revisited. The baby died from fentanyl intoxication. An investigation found that the infant’s parents allegedly prepared his bottle in the same bedroom where they had been mixing fentanyl.

A week ago, a police bodycam video showing an officer overdosing on fentanyl went viral. During a traffic stop, the officer was exposed to the drug and was saved from a rapid death but only after being administered three complete doses of Narcan. The officers believed that strong winds contributed to her exposure and subsequent overdose.

The New York Times recently wrote an article specifically about videos showing police exposed to fentanyl. The story took a skeptic’s view and included a headline referencing an incident in which an officer believes the five rounds of Narcan administered to him saved his life after fentanyl exposure.

Another video that has restricted access sheds light on the extreme toxicity of fentanyl, and it was filmed in Mexico. Workers in the middle of a field are cooking up fentanyl to be sold in large quantities through drug cartels. Their faces are carefully covered to prevent inhalation. According to sources at that scene, it is not unusual for the people performing that task to die from the accidental inhalation of fentanyl.
