Texas Jail Abuse Lawyer – A Former Jailer Outside Texas Faces Criminal Charges for Allegedly Beating an Inmate – Part 1
In news outside of Texas this week, a former jail guard who was fired last week due to accusations of attacking a prisoner has been arrested. Allegedly, the former jailer viciously beat an inmate who was hospitalized for almost a week from injuries sustained in the alleged attack. The former jailer surrendered himself to the police and was in the company of his lawyer. A judge has charged him with official misconduct, which is a misdemeanor. He was also charged with second-degree assault. If found guilty, the maximum possible penalty is 7 years in prison.
The former officer, who has been released on bail, pled not guilty to the misdemeanor. The felony assault charge will be presented to a grand jury within a week or so to determine if there will be further action. The criminal charges brought against the former jailer are the result of an investigation conducted by the local police department.
The investigation, among other things, revealed that the alleged beating took place in an area where there are no cameras.
The jailer claims that the inmate he is accused of beating attacked him. The inmate suffered a collapsed lung, a broken collarbone, and six broken ribs.
